After 12-days long event, CSGO betting lovers’ favorite IEM Katowice 2022 found its precious winner. World’s one of the biggest organizations, FaZe Clan surpassed its opponent, G2 Esports, in the grand final and grabbed the trophy. The champions managed to close out the best-of-five series in three maps, not giving up a single point.
First Map
The first map of the series, Inferno, made it clear from the beginning that the competition was going to be legendary. Starting on the T side in its map pick, FaZe Clan didn’t get what it wanted in the first half as it fell behind 11-4. Luckily, Robin “ropz” Kool was there to save his team. He stepped up, lit the fire of comeback, and won insane clutch rounds.
Thanks to ropz, FaZe managed to extend the map to overtime from a 7-15 disadvantage. The comeback caused G2 Esports to lose all the control it had, which led its opponents to win the map in the overtime with a 19-15. Ropz dropped 32 kills and finished the game with a 1.45 rating.
Second Map
Teams headed to Mirage as the second map of the matchup. With the confidence it got, FaZe Clan dominated the first half on the CT side with a 11-4. However, now it was time for G2 to rebound. Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač put his heart out with 57 kills and helped his team tie the match at 15-15.
The overtime presented CS:GO fans the best times of their lives. Overtime after overtime, the teams weren’t able to beat each other. After all the brilliant plans, individual plays, and tactics, FaZe Clan grabbed the map point with a 31-27.
Third Map
All hopes of G2 Esports rested on the last map of the series which was Dust 2. Unlike the first two maps, the game started head-to-head from the first half that ended 8-7 in favor of FaZe. G2 Esports’ superstar Nikola “NiKo” Kovač continued his poor performance on Dust 2 and this was one of the biggest disadvantages for the team.
Even though huNter- and Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov shined for G2, their performances weren’t enough. Minor mistakes determined the end of the game and FaZe Clan grabbed the map with a 16-14 and dominated its opponent 3-0 in the grand final of IEM Katowice 2022.
Generating 1.30 Rating and +134 KD-diff, Helvijs “broky” Saukants won the MVP award of IEM Katowice 2022. This is the first MVP reward for the 21-year-old.
FaZe Clan faced tough situations in this tournament. During the group stage, the team’s rifler Håvard “rain” Nygaard tested COVID-19 positive and missed the playoffs as he remained in isolation. Complexity’s Justin “jks” Savage joined the roster as a stand-in and helped FaZe win IEM Katowice 2022.
The tournament proved that it’s one of the most prestigious CS:GO tournaments out there as it became the most popular non-Major CS:GO tournament. The breathtaking grand final of the event peaked at 1.12 million concurrent viewers, alongside 328.086 average viewers.
