After a long journey, the champion of the North American professional League of Legends league LCS 2022 became clear. At the end of the final series, which was more one-sided than expected, Evil Geniuses won the trophy by beating their opponent 100 Thieves with 3-0. LCS 2022 kicked off on February 5 with the regular season that consisted of 10 teams and LoL betting opportunities. The league stage, in which each team played a total of 18 matches, ended on March 27 and the teams that made it to the playoffs were determined. The Double Round Robin system was applied throughout the league and the top six teams took their places in the playoffs. Journey of Evil Geniuses
After the undesirable result of the 2021 season, Evil Geniuses made significant changes in their roster before the new season started. The team, which was quite busy in the off-season, broke the bone structure of its roster and focused on the youth. EG brought jojopyun as Mid, Inspired as Jungle, and veteran Vulcan as Support. Top laner Impact and ADC Danny retained their spot on the roster.
Evil Geniuses’ purpose was clear. The 2 experienced names in the team would lead the youngs and they would be a constantly developing team. In the light of these expectations, the team started the season. Although they are considered fresh, they managed to get a win from their opponents at an early stage.
These victories were very important in the league where all the teams were close to each other in terms of scores. Coming to the end of the regular season, EG became a much better team and stepped into the playoffs, finishing fourth with 9 wins and 9 losses.
However, the elimination phase did not start as they wanted. EG lost 3-2 against strong Team Liquid in the first round and fell into the lower-bracket. The roster’s miracle run started here. First, they beat their first rivals, FlyQuest, with a convincing 3-1 score. Later, they smashed Cloud9, one of the leading organizations in the league, with 3-0. EG’s next rival was Team Liquid and the team were there to take their revenge. They surpassed Liquid with a 3-0 and sent them home while advancing to the grand final. This result surprised esports betting followers.
Grand Final
In the Grand Final, the opponent was 100 Thieves. Last season’s champion 100 Thieves managed to keep everyone in their squad and wanted to have a back-to-back championship. However, Evil Geniuses were so in form that they almost didn’t care who they were up against. The team continued its great performance, defeated its opponent in the final with 3-0 and managed to win the championship.
With this result, Evil Geniuses won the first LCS title in their history. In addition to achieving this with a young roster, the team played nearly perfect League of Legends and won the trophy.
