VCT 2022 Masters Reykjavík Group Stage Ended

The group stage of VALORANT’s first offline tournament in 2022 has ended. The teams that will take part in the VCT 2022 Masters Reykjavík playoffs were determined after the matches played between April 10-13. Let’s take a look at the details of the group stage.

VCT 2022 Masters Reykjavík started with two separate groups of 4 teams each. Eight teams from all over the world stepped into this global arena to best represent their region. Teams with new names and familiar faces competed against each other, and in the end, four teams made it to the playoffs and offered great esports betting opportunities. Here are the teams:

DRX

The Korean representative came here with great expectations. It was time to achieve international success for the team, which achieved significant success in 2021. The team in Group A became the rival of Fnatic, Ninjas in Pyjamas and ZETA DIVISION. As expected, DRX became the first team to make the playoffs with two easy wins in a row against Fnatic and NiP and made happy VALORANT betting fans.

ZETA DIVISION

The first surprise of the tournament came from ZETA. No one expected the Japan representative to leave this group, but they surprised everyone. Although they started the group with a loss, they later defeated Fnatic and NiP to become the second team to leave the group. This was a great victory for the Japan region.

Team Liquid

Team Liquid, who was invited after FPX not being able to participate in the tournament, used this chance well. It was obvious that the EMEA team was well prepared for this event. So much so that the team seemed to have developed its strategies and went one step further individually. As a result, Liquid had a clear advantage over their opponents in the group stage and made it to the playoffs.

OpTic Gaming

The North American representative was not able to start the Masters Reykjavík as it wanted. After the defeat to XERXIA Esports, the team managed to survive the elimination fight. Defeated KRU Esports and came out again against XERXIA. But this time, OpTic, who managed to put on a better performance, qualified to go to the next round next to Liquid.

Group Stage Disappointment

The first phase of VCT 2022 Masters Reykjavík brought disappointments. Fnatic, one of the biggest teams in Europe, could not overcome the problems they experienced. The team had to exclude BraveAF first. Then, the star and most important player of the team, Derke, had to stay in quarantine due to COVID-19.

Especially the absence of Derke greatly affected the team. Although they hired two good players from other teams, it wasn’t enough for Fnatic. The team performed poorly in the matches and was unexpectedly excluded from the tournament. Derke, on the other hand, returned home without playing any matches, spending his time only in quarantine.

After that, eight teams will fight to lift the trophy in the playoffs. The four teams that came first in their regions and the 4 teams that managed to get out of the groups will share their trump cards. Masters Reykjavík, which will last until April 24, will continue by increasing the tempo.

All playoff matches will be broadcast live on various platforms.
