The group stage of the VCT 2022 Stage 2 Masters Copenhagen is over. In a tournament of surprise results for esports betting followers, the teams that made it to the playoffs and the teams that were relegated to the lower-bracket and then went home were determined. VCT 2022 Stage 2 Masters Copenhagen Group Stage
Masters Copenhagen, VALORANT’s second international tournament in 2022, witnessed some surprising results in the group stage. Group A, the so-called group of death by VALORANT betting fans, featured Guild Esports, OpTic Gaming, KRÜ Esports and LOUD. After winning their first match, Guild and KRÜ faced off in the winner’s series. Guild won this match and qualified for the playoffs.
The biggest surprise of the group was that the Brazilian champion LOUD lost both of their matches and were out of the tournament without a win. The other team from Group A to make the playoffs is Stage 1 Masters champion OpTic.
In Group B, things were more one-sided. Strong Korean representative DRX and EMEA team FunPlus Phoenix started to dominate the other teams in the group, Northeption and XERXIA. While DRX came out on top of the group, FPX defeated Northeption in the Decider Series to take second place.
VCT 2022 Stage 2 Masters Copenhagen Playoffs First Round
With the end of the group stage, the highly anticipated knockout phase began. The first series was between Paper Rex and Guild Esports. According to many viewers, Guild were the favorite, but Paper Rex played such a strong and fast game that they defeated their opponent 2-0 and sent them to the lower-bracket.
The next series pitted two EMEA teams against each other. Fnatic and FunPlus Phoenix, who were in the same group in the regular season, battled each other for the next round. Fnatic came out on top with a 2-0 result.
The next match was between Leviatán and DRX. The LATAM representative was able to take a 1-0 lead in the series, but the experienced DRX squad was able to turn the match around and send their opponent to the lower-bracket with a score of 2-1.
The final match of the quarterfinals featured a North America derby. XSET and OpTic Gaming squared off once again. This time, the winner was OpTic Gaming with a 2-0 result.
Playoffs Lower-Bracket Round 1
The life and death matches of VCT 2022 Masters Copenhagen have begun. The first series of the lower stage was Guild Esports vs FunPlus Phoenix. In a more one-sided series than expected, FPX were the team with more map dominance and managed to defeat their opponent 2-1.
The final match of the stage was between XSET and Leviatán. XSET were everyone’s favorite as the first seed of North America. However, Leviatán took the momentum and confidence into the series and tore them apart. In both individual games and critical moments, the LATAM representative was one step ahead and managed to defeat his opponent 2-1.
