LEC Week 2 Predictions

Day 1

MAD Lions vs. Excel Esports

MAD Lions and Excel Esports are tied on the leaderboards, 1-2. While Excel Esports have failed to perform, this downturn cannot be compared to MAD Lions. Mad Lions were one of the top LEC teams last year, even making it to Worlds 2020. Behind and having lost to midtier teams, the new MAD Lion’s lineup with the additions of Armut and Elyoya is substantially weaker.

Predictions: MAD Lions 58% l Excel Esports 42%

FC Shalke 04 vs. SK Gaming

These two teams are also tied 1-2, however, they competed against vastly different opponents. FC Schalke 04 had a shaky Week 1, losing to both Excel Esports and Fnatic. On the other hand, while SK Gaming dropped two games, they put up a strong fight against G2 Esports and Rogue, the only two teams currently undefeated.

Prediction: FC Schalke 04 39% l SK Gaming 61%

G2 Esports vs. Astralis

As expected, G2 Esports have gotten off to a very strong start, crushing their opponents to stand undefeated through Week 1. While it is still too early to call G2 Esports the strongest team this split, they are well on track for claiming yet another LEC title. Astralis had rebranded from Origen, however, chose not to keep any of their 2020 lineup. Equipped with a new roster, Astralis is currently positioning itself as a low to midtier team.

Prediction: G2 Esports 82% l Astralis 18%

Misfits Gaming vs. Rogue

Heading into 2021 with a handful of new members, Misfits are looking good. Misfits were even able to take down Fnatic, one of EU’s strongest teams. Rogue had managed to keep most of their 2020 roster, a lineup that closely contended for G2’s top spot in the 2020 LEC Summer Playoffs. Rogue are at the top of their game, even making an upgrade through signing Odoamne.

Prediction: Misfits Gaming 44% l Rogue 56%

Team Vitality vs. Fnatic

Team Vitality have had a slow and shaky start, down 1-2 due to losing some favoured match ups. Fnatic are also under performing despite signing big names like Nisqy and Upset to their new 2021 lineup.

Prediction: Team Vitality 34% l Fnatic 66%

Day 2

Excel Esports vs. Astralis

Both teams appear evenly matched given their positions as low to midtier teams. However, given members on Astralis are slightly more experienced, they have a small advantage.

Prediction: Excel Esports 47% Astralis 53%

Misfits Gaming vs. SK Gaming

Misfits Gaming and SK Gaming finished 2020 close together, and have both undergone major roster changes. This match between the two can go either way but will be a key factor in determining which team will truly be able to compete for the 2020 LEC Spring title alongside the other top teams.

Prediction: Misfits Gaming 50% l SK Gaming 50%

Team Vitality vs. Rogue

Given Team Vitality had only signed one new player to the team’s starting roster, it comes as little surprise the team has failed to turn its fortunes around. On the otherhand, Rogue had upgraded their already dominant 2020 roster, giving them the clear advantage going into this match.

Prediction: Team Vitality 22% l Rogue 78%

FC Schalke 04 vs. G2 Esports

While the FC Schalke 04 lineup are by no means poor despite having two players from the academy league, they are severely lacking compared to the sheer strength and power in G2 Esports. G2 Esports looked slightly shaky against SK Gaming by losing control of the early game. FC Schalke 04 may stand a small chance if they manage to take early control of the jungle and prevent the various superstar carries in G2 from snowballing.

Prediction: FC Schalke 25% l G2 Esports 75%

Fnatic vs. MAD Lions

Fnatic had dropped games to both Misfits Gaming and Rogue, both mid to top tier teams, and are clearly looking weaker than compared to 2020. MAD Lions despite also being 1-2 on the leaderboard have a significantly weaker lineup.

Prediction: Fnatic 72% l MAD Lions 28%
